of romantic relationship and the way in which a person functions within those relationships. Attachment theory is the belief that individuals demonstrate different styles of attachment that can be
impacted by two dimensions, anxiety and avoidance (Hazan and Shaver, 1987). Secure attachment occurs when a person demonstrates a low level of anxiety and a low level of avoidance
and seeks out positive interactions with partners, including sharing feelings, support, and comfort (Hazan and Shaver, 1987). Preoccupied attachment occurs when individuals have a low level of avoidance but
a high level of anxiety in regards to their close personal relationships (Hazan and Shaver, 1987). These individuals may seek out closeness and enjoy close relationships, but they are
preoccupied with thoughts of loss or inadequacies in the relationship, including the belief that they do not or are not loved adequately. The final of the three most
prevalent attachment styles related to the views of Hazan and Shaver (1987) is dismissing or avoidant attachment, in which people demonstrate a low level of anxiety and a high level
of avoidance in their interpersonal relationships. People with this type of attachment style generally do not seek out relationships or avoid highly emotional connections, which can lead to the
avoidance of emotional comfort and support. My score on the online Romantic Attachment Quiz provided by PsychCentral
defined my attachment style as secure and this corresponded to my response in the relationship questionnaire compiled by Hazan and Shaver (1987). In this questionnaire, I responded that I
find it relatively easy to form close interpersonal relationships and that Im comfortable in them, especially in depending on others and having others depend on me. In regards to
