text. Part 1 Racial/Ethnic Minorities and Cross Cultural Counseling This opening section of the book makes a persuasive case for formulating methodologies and practices for mental health services that
are cognizant of the differences between minority cultures and that of mainstream society. In this manner, the author argues that mental health services can be designed that are capable of
meeting the special needs of specific ethnic and racial minorities. Chapter 1. Defining Populations and Terms This chapter, first of all, offers definitions that address terms such as
"race, ethnicity, and culture" (Atkinson 5). These definitions also serve to introduce intriguing and controversial ideas, such as whether or not "race" is a valid concept. In connection with
this definition/discussion, the author offers criticism of the biological definition of race, and also the social definition of race, prior to addressing issues that concern ethnicity and culture, which address
these terms in a similar manner. The final section of this chapter offers an insightful overview relative to counseling ethnic minority populations, and also outlines Atkinsons selection criteria for how
the minority populations were selected for focus in this text. Chapter 2. Within-Group Differences among Ethic Minorities This principal focus for
this chapter is to examine the characteristics that constitute, which exist within all minority groups in regards to specific individuals. First of all, the author explores cultural differences that exist
