(IADL) Scale, the following assessment evaluates Mrs. T.s ability to living independently and whether or not her needs are being met. The Katz ADL evaluates six basic tasks that
are fundamental to daily living. An assessment score of 6 indicates a person who is capable of living independently. Mrs. T. bathes daily and accomplishes this daily living task without
aid. On the evaluation sheet sent by the student, it is indicated that Mrs. T. did not receive a point for being able to dress herself, yet on the
assignment itself, the student indicates that she does dress herself. This is contradictory. Furthermore, the student indicates that Mrs. T. did not receive a point in regards to "transferring,"
which means that she "needs help in moving from bed to chair or requires a complete transfer" (Katz, et al, 1970). This assessment also does not fit with Mrs. T.s
profile, as this indicates that she is walks well enough to refuse the use of a cane and needs only occasional assistance when walking. The assignment information also indicated that
she does "light housekeeping," which is also not consistent with someone who needs assistance getting out of bed. However, the student indicates that Mrs. T. does not receive points for
either of the categories, in which case, the student may wish to write something like the following in conveying this information: On the Katz ADL, Mrs. T. scores only
