from its former inefficient service with a poor reputation to an airline that is generally seen as a global leader. However this is historical performance and events such as 9/11
and the impact of SARs are in now in the past. In order to consider the current position of the company in the changing industry environment more up to date
considerations need to be made. The performance of BA over the last few years (2005 - 2008) may help to indicate the way that the company is likely to perform
in the future as well as assess the proficiency of management of the company. There is little doubt that the company has grown, increasing to a point where for
the year ending 31st March 2208 the company had carried 22 million passengers and 805,00 tones of cargo (BA, 2008). The fleet consists of 245 aircraft which was increased as
a result of the recent acquisition of the French airline LAvion, completed in July 2008 (BA, 2008). At the most basic of levels it may be argued that simply
surviving the last few years may be a sign of success, and is an indicator of performance. However, there arte other indicators which appear to demonstrate that the firm is
not doing as well as it may have hoped, It has been reported that BA is once again in talks for a strategic alliance with American Airways (AA) and seeking
clearance from US anti trust regulation to form an alliance for transatlantic flights, this was sought in 1997 and 2001, but the demands were that BA give up some of
