more information on using this paper properly! Research is often regarded as the cornerstone of academic achievement, but it must be remembered that not all research is equal. Depending
on how research is carried out, it may lead to potent innovations and discoveries, or it might be entirely valueless. Therefore, it is critical to be able to tell the
difference between quality research and research that is lacking in value. For demonstrative purposes, one might look at a recent article such as William Regiers 2005 paper on the
difficulties inherent in starting and maintaining a successful academic journal publication. In this paper, Regier writes that the three primary factors that "kill" journals are a "lack of subscriptions, lack
of institutional support, and failure in the transfer of editorial control" (Regier, 2005). In assessing the quality of his research supporting this claim, one must look at qualitative dimensions such
as the quality of studies underlining his conclusions and the extent to which bias is eliminated, as well as quantitative factors such as the number of studies assessed, the sample
size researched, and the statistical significance of the research (National Center for the Dissemination of Disability Research, 2005). In attempting to prove these claims, Regier relies heavily upon an
observational study design. As the writer of the paper, he has worked for years as an editor for several prestigious publications, and has had the chance to bear witness to
changing trends in academic publications. As such, he frequently refers to his experiences with such journals as the Yale Journal of Criticsm, the Northwestern University Law Review, and the Harvard
