This 8 page paper assesses a research paper called A Health Needs Assessment of Black and Minority Ethnic Children’s Needs, which was conducted in the Leeds area in the UK. and primary sources. It is impossible to undertake an research of this type without making use of primary healthcare sources. However, looking at this report it can be argued that
there are a shortage of good reliable primary sources. In determining what types of sources are needed and how the are approached the secondary information which are used to
define healthcare needs assessments are valuable and give indications of the differing approaches that could be adopted. These have lead to the main initial target being "to identify and define
that population, to identify priority groups within it, and to gain an insight into the current state of affairs regarding their health and use of health services". The initial
primary research does not take data fro health sources, but from local school rolls. This may be seen as innovative as the up to date census data is not available,
and older data will not longer be relevant due to the short period of childhood which is being examined. These may not be as accurate as some sources due
to the nature of the records, but as seen from the definition any consideration has to begin with the identification and the understanding of the minority groups.
Associated with this s the need to identify markers of health inequality, which may then be cross referenced with the levels of ethnic monitories in
the different wards giving some understanding of the health needs. For example, the correlations between health and social class or income is well established. However, these are not health sources
as they are school rolls and also the Department of Health with figures from 1997. Yet, when looking at this we can accept the importance, especially when figures are produced
