interviewing has traditionally been score based, with a weighting to each score dependant on the relevant importance to the proposed job (Huczyniski and Buchanan, 1996). To undertake this we will develop a matrix which can be used to score the candidates to assess which has the optimum level of required attributes. We will use only five areas of assessment, but these need to be understood in order to give the correct initial score. These are interpersonal and communication skills, analytical and quantitative skills, relevant work experience, commitment and transferable skills. The job is in the managers office for a person to lead two projects. Any individual who is going to lead projects needs to have good communication skills, not only telling, but also listening as well as knowing how to motivate and talk to people and get on with them in order to solicit their loyalty and gain their best efforts. In this we are not only looking at the way an individual can talk, but also how they listen and the way they pout forward ideas, control communication and generally present themselves. Fir this there will be a 0.25 rating as this is important. This also needs to be balanced with analytical and quantitative skills. Here we are looking at indicators of this ability, not only qualifications, as all have just completed MPA degrees, but the way the skills have been used in the past and the results they have achieved as well as indicators of potential.
