good friends and a good work ethic would appeal to most people. Being truthful and earning others trust would probably be on the list as well. A woman named Lorraine
Banfield has a list of what she calls "12 keys" to a good life, and her ideas seem very reasonable, so lets look at some of her suggestions. First, she
says that people who enjoy a life that flows easily as opposed to those who struggle through a difficult existence have some things in common. First, most happy people have
self-knowledge: "They know who they are" (Banfield). They know their strengths and weaknesses and focus on the things they can do and enjoy doing, rather than working at things they
dislike, simply to please others or make money (Banfield). They "know their values and live those values" (Banfield). Secondly, they have integrity, which is defined as the quality of being
honest, keeping ones word, and having a good character (Banfield). These people understand that its possible to take short cuts, cheat others and be "irresponsible and dishonest," but they also
know this is a very unhealthy way to live (Banfield). They are hardworking and honest, and they do not "compromise their integrity for pleasures of the moment" (Banfield). People who
live well have developed a very important skill, that of critical thinking (Banfield). They know that things may not always be what they seem, so they dont accept things at
