As an example, it was not always illegal to possess drugs and yet, the Prohibition Era made alcohol illegal. Crimes can be categorized. And often times the categories will overlap. Some types of crimes are computer offenses crimes against persons, crimes against property, crimes against state security, drug offenses, sexual offenses, and weapon offenses. Crimes can also be categorized by the severity of the crime. Come of the common categorical terms used are felonies, indictable offenses, misdemeanors, and summary offences. For convenience, infractions which are actually the subject of a civil law are sometimes included in these lists. PAROLE AND PAROLE BOARDS After an individual is found guilty of a criminal act, they are generally sentenced to a specific time in a country jail or a state or federal prison. As a part of the criminal justice system the supervised release of a prisoner before they have totally completed their sentence is known as parole. Parole is different from amnesty or commutation of their sentence, as an individual who is on parole is thought to still be serving their sentence (Parole, 2005). In this connotation, if they do not adjustment well to the return to society, they can be returned to jail or prison. In the United States Judicial System, courts specify when handing down the sentence the amount of time that must be served prior to a prisoner becoming eligible for parole (Parole, 2005). Sometimes this is done by giving an indeterminate length of sentence such as 15 to 25 years to 15 years to life. The length of sentence which stipulates 15 years to life is known as an indeterminate life sentence (Parole, 2005).
