involve many different characters, the primary character in all of them being Aslan the lion. Aslan is a very kind and powerful figure. He is also a figure that is something of a legend in many ways, as the creatures and characters often wait for his arrival. For the most part Aslan is nothing but a characterization, or symbolic representation, of Jesus Christ. The following paper analyzes the character of Aslan the lion. Aslan "Aslan is the noble golden lion who epitomizes the goodness and justice of Narnia" (SparkNotes). Interestingly enough, when the children in the book first hear his name they have no mental knowledge of the lion but yet feel incredibly powerful and pleasant sensations at hearing his name. "Peter, Susan, and Lucy experience an inexplicable delight. Edmund, who has already betrayed his siblings by siding with the White Witch, is mysteriously horrified" (SparkNotes). This allows us to see that Aslan, if nothing else, is more than a simple living creature, he is something incredibly spiritual and powerful. There is something about him that can invade a person in many ways, and his power transcends that of any other individual in the story. The more the children learn about him the more he seems even more wondrous and amazing. The Beaver tells them that Aslan is the king of Narnia and that he sets everything right. "Aslan is awe-inspiring and a little frightening, but unquestionably benevolent and kind" (SparkNotes). No other character has such power and no other character is so good and kind and righteous.
