Essay / Research Paper Abstract
(7 pp) When was the last time that you wondered
how "smart" you are? We wonder about it all the
time with computers. We may not use the "s" word,
because that makes "them" seem too humanoid.
But we will ask how much memory does it have -
what other things can it "do?" And ever since machin
g more and more in our lives there is that
faint whisper of a question, what will we do, if
"they" get smarter than we are. This discussion
will look at some of those, "what-ifs," in the area
of artificial intelligence, and the ability of
computers to be creative. Bibliography lists

to problems? We would like to believe it is all of those, for those definitions show a bit more complexity than the labels, "mental ability," or
"learning ability," or the unrevealing, "IQ." Each of as humans wants to believe that we have unique abilities, even if it is making the best popcorn in the western
world. But how will I feel if the ultimate, computer-based, "popcorn robot," who cannot only make butter popcorn, but caramel and garlic as well -without the dirty pan --comes
on the scene. Certainly the case is silly, but once, we thought computers were frivolous as well. Since we have come to
pride ourselves on being a nation, who can measure our advances with "the best of em." We have even found numerous ways to measure intelligence. Many of these
tests reflect information that we have stored and can give back, in the same manner that a computer would. It is no wonder that we are beginning to question
