American women regarding their past learning experiences and adult literacy. This researcher employed an interview technique to assess the perspectives of the five women studied. By using this
methodology, the researcher was able to introduce a body of questions that were the same for each woman, and then also ask specific questions that related to each womans own
experiences. This provided the researcher with a concrete view of the experiences of each woman, and also allowed for the expansion of a standardized question format to include specifics
regarding each womans own experiential differences and learning histories. The researcher supported study validity by introducing the hypothesis (the connection between learning histories and literacy rates) and defined the connection
between the study format and the hypothesis presented. The study focused on showing this connection, and as a result, demonstrated a high degree of validity. The researcher addressed
the issue of reliability by outlining the question types and the format through which they pursued the interview process. The research stated the selection process, the use of open-ended
questions and the direction of each segment of the interview process. Though the specific nature of this kind of study does not lend itself to a high degree of
reliability in terms of design, the researcher stated their process, intent and the direction of their questions in order to support a high degree of validity. The reliability of
