"The first, The Articles of Confederation, was in effect from March 1, 1781, when Maryland ratified it. The second, The Constitution, replaced the Articles when it was ratified by New
Hampshire on June 21, 1788" (Mount, 2003). As can be imagined, there were issues for all the states involved and as such the Articles of Confederation clearly did not meet
all the needs of the people who were a part of the Union at that time. The following paper examines the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the United
States, and the need for change, with an emphasis on the needs of New York. The paper is written from the perspective of one who may have lived during the
time, a citizen with an interest in New Yorks place. Articles of Confederation and the Constitution of the United States It is evident that the Articles of Confederation
will not meet the needs of everyone and perhaps it cannot be expected to meet the needs of all the Union members. But, there is also areas which can be
improved to help further benefit all Union members, moving in the direction of a true Constitution of the United States. First off, New York has always maintained a very unique
history in relationship to other members of the Union. New York has remained under the control of the British for far longer than other colonies, and they have also experienced
a unique relationship with the natives of the land. As such New York can perhaps stand to lose the most by agreeing to any articles or any constitution. At
