Stevenson, a member of the European parliament. Stevenson is the President of the European Parliamentary Delegation for Relations with Iraq. The report is based on desk based research that examines
the refugee problems which has been caused by the ongoing War in Iraq. The contents of the report look at the scope and scale of the problems of Iraqi
refugees since the year 2003. Included within this report are internal refugees as well as those that have left the country, with brief discussions of the conflict and causes which
have resulted in an estimated 4.4 million Iraqis leaving their homes due to sectarian violence (Stevenson, 2009). The poor situation and massive scale of the problem is discussed. This is
not the only report to look at these issues Fagan, (2009), notes that this is the largest displacement in the Middle East since the Palestinian problem in 1948. Bettis (2010)
also looks at the issue from an international perspective and argues international law is inadequate to deal with the situation and provide the aid needed for the refugees.
When reading the report it may be hypothesised that the current situation is one that is likely to lead to a negative spiral, with
current fragmentation and sectarian violence increasing the divisions within society, which in turn may see the continue as the gaps between the different ethnic social segments increases. The report
notes that the difficulty is recent, as prior to the war in Iraq had a history of peaceful tolerance, with different tribes coexisting without religious violence. However, in seven years
