ninety-three randomly chosen female respondents were recruited from the Healthy Women Study based upon criteria such as ethnicity 490 white, 48 African-American, 2 Asian-American, 1 other), menopausal status, age (42-50),
blood pressure levels and amount/type of medications taken. Sixty percent of those women who passed the screening process participated in the study. Baseline visits and multiple follow-ups once
menses had ceased supplied the foundation upon which the study was conducted; additional follow-ups were conducted three years post-baseline, which afforded each respondent with a number of subsequent rechecks.
Pertinent risk factors examined included systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fasting glucose, triglycerides (biological), smoking, exercise, body mass index (lifestyle), anger, anxiety, stress, depression and perceived social support (psychosocial).
Respondents provided information pertaining to their relationships from a perspective of marital status/cohabitation arrangement and marital quality, the latter of which incorporated the aspects of frequency of sex, level of
communication, how much time spent together, temperament, overall lifestyle, interest similarity and financial harmony. III. RESULTS/CONCLUSIONS Despite separation by ethnicity, the authors realized their overall hypothesis by finding "women
in marriages characterized by high levels of satisfaction showed a health advantage" Gallo et al, 2003, p. 460); their unsatisfied counterparts - divorced, widowed, single - were at greater risk
due to the impact such a state of mind has upon the bodys well being. Even those respondents who reported being moderately satisfied within their marriages were at greater
