idea of compensation for organ donation. Some background is that organ donation, up until recently, has been exclusively voluntary and without pay. In fact, by and large, this is the
case. The law stipulates that organs cannot be sold, but organs are purportedly sold on the black market. The stealing and selling of organs is in fact the subject of
urban legend and such cases have appeared on fictitious programs. It is possible that monetary compensation has in fact changed hands in the United States, but that is against the
law. Of course, such cases are few and far between. By and large, people donate organs due to their good will. Families of accident victims feel that at least their
loved one is in part kept alive within another human being and that their body parts are being well utilized. Others are afraid to donate organs for various superstitious or
religious reasons. Some fear that their participation in an organ donation program would hasten the pronouncement of death as the doctors will want the organs for other people. Unfortunately, doctors
must confront families about organ donation at a difficult time in their lives and many people are suspicious of the organ donation program. Authors go into the divisive nature of
