misconceptions have come to the forefront of discussions about the application of critical theory, and so the author defines critical theory and provides an overview of the major theoretical views,
including those of the Frankfurt scholars. Conflict theory and the dialectic of change are the two primary theoretical principles that are outlined by this author. This article is analytical
in nature, and provides an overview and reflections of theories, rather than conducting a study. The author utilizes the assertions of conflict theorists to demonstrate the application for the
management of change in the organizational setting. Statement of Problem The position argued by the author is that there are three primary misconceptions in the application
of critical theory. First, Carr (2000) relates the assessments of Adorno and others in regards to the nature of dialectical thought, which is often defined through the view of
a two-sided argument. Carr (2000) argues instead that that dialectic is based on the creation of a coercive message that is analytical. The second misconception, then, is that
dialectics require the integration of the thesis/antithesis/synthesis model. Finally, Carr (2000) is that any argument must integrate binary oppositional thinking at its foundation. These misconceptions are then challenged through
the application of the current literature. Review of Literature Carr (2000) relates the foundational theories through the literature of theorists like Horkheimer, Adorno, Hegel, Marx, and many
