the success of training as a precursor to managerial or organizational change. This study applies critical theory in an attempt to determine how resistance to organizational change can be
exacerbated by training programs that are ineffective in defining new structures or organizational theory, thereby supporting resistance. The purpose of this study is to assess the implications of resistance to
change and the impacts that certain types of training have, by taking a look at the process for one university. The central theory being assessed in this study
is critical theory, which relates to the authorship of the Frankfurt School theorists, as well as Marx and Engels and Habermas. This study is a case study of the
application of training for managerial change at "Kingsville University." The authors relate the need to apply critical theory to a concerted view of the issues of training and its implications
for employee empowerment and positive change, in order to inform the structure of future trainings. Statement of Problem The authors thesis is based in the application of critical
theory to determine why individuals are resistant to change in the workplace setting. Specifically, the author supports the hypothesis that training designed to empower employees can further support resistance
to change. The author analyzes conflict theory, positivism and the development of spurious dichotomies, as well as positivism as understood in comparison to absolutism, and oppression and the concept
of dialectic reasoning as it can be understood within models for training. Review of Literature Rusaw (2000) provides an overview of a variety of types of sources, including
