identified four different dimensions; these were power distance, individualism /collectivism, masculinity/femininity and uncertainty avoidance. These are also added to with the later classification of long term orientation (Hofstede , 2003).
The way that this impacts on communication, values and the expectations of the different parties can cause barriers if they are not understood. The potential of an outsourcing provider to
have a passive approach, such as in Indian culture and an abstractive culture may indicate a firm where the buyer needs tio seek out a greater level of input, seeking
to overcome the barriers. It was noted that in many instances where there were German-Indian contracts there would be the use of a common third party language, often English,
being a common language to both parties, but not native to either (Wrinkler et al, 2008). Despite the potential different uses of language, the use of a third party language
appears to have provided a foundation for successes with most projects deemed to be successful. The use of a common language gives a basis for communication, but then there
are also issues such as the difficulty in saying no for the Indian culture, even in response to a query in terms of whether a project is understood which may
also explain the preference for very clear terms. Lessons that can be applied include understanding the differences in curlew and how they may impact on communications and values, then finding
