relating to the terrorists threats since 9/11. The article first addresses how terrorists have been detained and sent to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba. However, since December of last year, when
it was determined that torture was going on in the United States military and there was great controversy over the matter, it seems that rather than incarcerate individuals they were
simply being killed. The author illustrates that this was done in order to avoid problems with torture and to essentially await a new sort of ruling that would allow some
sort of "questioning" to take place once more. The author does a very good job at pointing out violations of rights that the federal government seems to be doing its
best to avoid, desiring to do whatever they want to prisoners, guilty or not as they may be. The article indicates that a new bill was passed with gives
President Bush the right to decide what defines an enemy combatant and thus giving him the power to control torture and procedures. In essence, this brings back into play the
practice of capturing and questioning, although the majority of the public still believes this is not being accepted as righteous or honorable. Throughout the article there is clear indication that
torture, obviously having taken place since 9/11 as it involves the United States and terrorists, is now undergoing a new perspective wherein the line that draws what is acceptable and
what is not acceptable is very vague and undefined. The article begins with the notion that since 9/11 the government has to "work...with the dark side" and the article ends
with the same notation, indicating that the government is apparently doing whatever is necessary, even becoming involved in violations of human rights, in order to see their cause succeed. The
