very powerful and extremely influential when raising sons. Although it is true that the piece points to several examples, the author does not provide sufficient evidence of the claim. A
student writing on this subject might want to provide some examples of how this author approaches the topic. One example is that the author writes: "A pious and faithful mother
may have a dissolute child." The solution is to basically take comfort in knowing that God is with this mother. Here, there is a sense that the author is rather
cavalierly dishing out advice but really does not give the reader the tools to follow through. A major premise of the piece is that children, and particularly sons, should be
brought up in a religious environment. This is, according to the author, the only way that an individual can grow up to be a good citizen. While there is some
merit in the claim that children do need order and values and that children who are raised in the church are in fact more obedient and do well, there is
the other side to the story. That is, there are many children who are raised in the church and completely disregard its lessons. Not only that, but when raised too
strictly, there is usually an equal and opposite rebellion. Also, there really is no telling what will happen in the future and whether a mothers influence is really all that
significant. The article is obviously written in another day and time. It seems to have been written in a time when things were "proper" and this is discerned by the
authors use of language. The content is also consistent with this idea. After all, the article is one that focuses on religion and child-rearing and goodness. These are things that
