addressed. Therefore, this research team conducted a study that investigated the quality of life experienced by terminally ill cancer patients in two different palliative care settings: inpatient and home-based palliative
care. The specific goals of this research were to "compare the symptom experience, physical and psychological health status, level of personal control over the illness and quality of life...and
to identify factors that predict the quality of life of terminally ill cancer patients" (Peters and Sellick, 2006, p. 524). Literature Review In this research article, a brief
literature review is incorporated into the authors introduction. The authors begin by describing the problem, which concerns the enormous challenges facing healthcare professionals in regards to the care of terminal
cancer patients, physically, psychologically and socially. As the researchers introduce the problem, they outline the parameters of the debate that concerns the best setting for palliative care. Over the last
decade, there has been a major paradigm shift that has changed the focus of care for terminally ill patients from institution-based care and towards more home-based care. This shift is
founded on the perspective that patients who are cared for in the home are provided with an overall better quality of life (Peters and Sellick, 2006). In presenting this
