Thus far in empirical research, there is a deficit of information regarding the attitudes of cancer patients regarding the effectiveness of Internet cancer support groups (ICSGs) for meeting these needs.
Some studies addressing ICSGs report that only 7 to 10 percent of the cancer patients found that Internet resources were capable of meeting their needs and these respondents also reported
being undecided as to the trustworthiness of the medical information offered online (Im, et al, 2007). This is an important topic for nursing because one of the most significant nursing
goals with cancer patients is for nurses to ensure that these patients have appropriate "emotional support and strengthen their adaptation to the disease" (Zabalegui, et al, 2005, p. 369). Study
Purpose The purpose of the Im, et al (2007) study was to investigate the attitudes of cancer patients toward ICSGs through the medium of a qualitative online forum. Research Question
