Kerwins (1999) passage is a classic example of how one persons agenda successfully whipped up an entire global community into a frenzy of erroneous proportion. Based upon groundless assumption and the one bad apple proverb, the writer illustrates how Smith was wholly successful in pushing her elitist mind-set upon the masses. Despite the fact that she had only her personal opinion as proof that anything harmful would come to her race if Asians were permitted to infiltrate the white race, she nonetheless stirred the pot of panic until her viewpoint had support by the droves. Cameron (1995) explains how those like Smith can overrule basic common sense and not only instills alarmist behavior in the general population but also in those of legislators who enact new policy to take action against the offensive group. This type of behavior, Cameron (1995) points out, has existed in one form or another as an example of how humanity must have some type of a scapegoat upon which to hurl its stones of morality.
