not a democracy; military personnel dont have a vote on where they are sent and what they do. They cant quit when things get nasty. And unless they want to
get into real trouble, they dont even have the option of criticizing leaders they feel are unsound, or objecting to the orders they give. This paper explains Article 92 of
the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), puts it in context of historical events, and also discusses the importance of military bearing for someone in a leadership position. Discussion Article
92 of the UCMJ is one of the "punitive articles"; articles 77 through 134 bear this designation. They list the "specific offenses which, if violated, can result in punishment by
court-martial" (Powers, 2010a). Article 92 states: Any person subject to this chapter who- (1) violates or fails to obey any lawful general order or regulation; (2) having knowledge
of any other lawful order issued by a member of the armed forces, which it is his duty to obey, fails to obey the order; or (3) is derelict in
the performance of his duties; shall be punished as a court-martial may direct (Powers, 2010b). There are a number of elements or conditions that need to be
