Marino and Kreiser (n.d.) explain that it is most common for an organizations core competencies to reside in its people and intellectual capital. Core competencies are internal factors "grounded
in cross-department and cross-functional combinations of skills, resources and technologies" (Marino and Kreiser, n.d., p. 245). Core competencies generally are not items that can be reflected on the balance
sheet. Working with this definition of core competencies, Artemis is shown to be lacking. The company is not deficient in quality, but
rather in quantity. It has no employees, and its two principals spend most of their time seeking funding rather than managing the business. Though Chris and George were
hard-working and appeared to have some good ideas, there was not much of substance to back up those ideas. Many people can digitize an image, and the idea of
selling a digital image online is nothing new. Neither is the fact that relatively few of the most attractive ones were not already available elsewhere. 2. Does Artemis Images have
a strategy? If yes, what is it? If no, explain how you came to this conclusion. Artemis does have a strategy, though it
appears to be one that never had a chance of working. Chris and George believed that fully 10 percent of the US population eventually might use their companys service,
either by buying digital images or having their own pictures digitized for alternative storage and ease of use. Neither, it appears, considered the fact that individuals could simply copy
the pictures on Artemis website. Those wanting higher quality images or images not containing Artemis logo could order from the company of course, but those holding only passing interest
