the possibility of a deeper understanding of something. The following paper examines two pieces of art, separately, examining their style, theme, medium, and imagery. The pieces of art are housed
at the San Antonia Museum of Art and are Abraham van Beyerens A Bouquet Still Life with Roses and an Indian sandstone sculpture, titled Yogini, from the 10th-11th century.
A Bouquet Still Life with Roses This particular painting is, as the name suggests, a still life. Beyeren was well known for
his still life paintings, a form of painting that he truly seemed to master and take on, almost as though it were his own. According to the students notes, regarding
what is written about this piece at the museum, it is oil on canvas. The student notes that he was a contemporary of the artist Rembrandt and "many layers of
meaning can be read into the painting" in light of the fact that "17th century Dutch still life`s frequently use iconography to trigger reflection by the viewer on moral issues
particularly with the theme of human vanity and the transience of life." The student also notes that there is a sense of wealth seen in the painting, as presented through
the opulent objects within the still life. For example, there are precious metal implements such as vases and platters, as well as a very rich opulence to the fabric that
covers the table, almost shimmering as though it were gold itself. Another author notes that, in relationship to the artist, "It was
