institution is crumbling in our societies. We argue against homosexuals having the option to marry, claiming it would ruin the institution of marriage and family. We hear of tougher laws
in the works, laws that would make it harder to gain a divorce, all in an effort to make the institution of marriage a stronger reality in the Western World.
Interestingly enough, despite the fact that it seems Western societies will go to almost any length to strengthen the institution of marriage, there is absolutely no talk of implementing
arranged marriages, which statistics seem to indicate are stronger marriages. Arranged marriages in India have been a very strong and supportive element of the Indian society, even when the Indians
move to other countries. The following paper first examines elements of the arranged marriage in India, then discusses divorce rates of Indian marriages as well as Western marriages. The paper
finishes with a discussion of why arranged marriages work for India and why they would not work in the Western world. Arranged Marriages "It is important to realize
that while India is very modernized in some aspects (i.e.. they lead the world in students math and science scores and produce the largest amount of engineers in the world)
they still keep to the tradition of arranged marriages. Marriages formed out of love AKA "love marriages" do happen in India but it is not the norm" (Pardesi Services, 2003).
