study the phenomenon of globalization as it existed in the 19th century. This paper discusses the claim that Vernes book is a guide to globalization in his time. Discussion The
book is very visual and has been filmed twice, once in 1956 and again in 2004, though the second is more a vehicle for Jackie Chan than a retelling of
Vernes novel. The 1956 film, however, is a classic, with David Niven in the role of Phileas Fogg, the Mexican comedian Cantinflas as his sidekick Passepartout, and Shirley MacLaine as
the East Indian princess Aouda, whom Fogg rescues and ultimately marries. The film isnt an in-depth character study and its pacing seems slow to audiences used to todays constant explosions
and frenetic camera work, but it is a good-natured adventure tale that features gorgeous photography of some of the most exotic places on earth. Much of the fun also comes
from spotting some of Hollywoods biggest stars of the time in cameo roles, such as Frank Sinatra as a piano player in a San Francisco saloon and Peter Lorre as
a deck steward on a tramp steamer. The film points out quite nicely the fact that the book really is a travelogue, with each episode giving the reader an idea
or "snapshot" of the country in which it takes place. If we look at the main theme of the book, we can see that it does indeed speak to
