fact, many people conceive of politics as bringing out the negative nature of man as so many politicians are corrupt. Yet, delving back through the centuries, some philosophers have seen
politics as something quite natural and necessary to quell mans evil nature. The Politics consists of various lectures written by Aristotle on subjects related to political situations and includes
discussions on property, rights of the people, and government rule. Much attention is focused on ethics, good citizenship and the like. In fact, within every discussion is an underlying moral
or ethical dilemma that Aristotle very often addresses quite well. Aristotle further has a unique conception of the rule of law that is evident in his writings. How did Aristotle
consider the rule of law in general? Throughout the work, the author addresses a variety of topics. In Book Four for example Aristotle talks of rich and poor, stating obvious
but often overlooked facts. He uses an example to demonstrate concepts of freedom involving wealth: "Suppose the whole population of a city to be 1300, and that of these
1000 are rich, and do not allow the remaining 300 who are poor, but free, and in an other respects their equals, a share of the government- no one
will say that this is a democracy" (Aristotle Book 4, Part IV, p.PG). He goes on to explain that if the poor were few and the masters of the
rich outnumber them, no one would call such a government an oligarchy so one should say that democracy is a form of government where the free people are the rulers,
