self-love and self-sacrifice. Aristotle contended that the person neglecting his own interests does no one a service, but in fact deflates
the benefits to all (Is Self-Love Justifiable? 2004). Aristotle asserted that the way we treat others is a reflection of how we feel about ourselves (Is Self-Love Justifiable?
2004). Therefore, to truly do well for others and to truly give of ourselves, we must first give TO ourselves, according to the views of Aristotle (Is Self-Love
Justifiable? 2004). Clearly, this was shocking philosophy for many, especially for the time and era, but it remains a truism
that is difficult for many in modern society to accept as well (Is Self-Love Justifiable? 2004). Throughout religion we often find similar references to such unity, with indications
that we are all but parts of the whole. Therefore, service to ourselves serves the whole, which is exactly the point that Aristotle was trying to make. When
we love ourselves, we fill ourselves with love that we then are able to give away (Is Self-Love Justifiable? 2004). If we do not love ourselves, then there
is no love available to pass on to friends, according to Aristotle (Is Self-Love Justifiable? 2004). In fact, Aristotle made
