about 150 words. Goodmans essay "Minneapolis Pornography Ordinance" is a reaction to a piece of legislation that was at the time being debated, which would have effectively crippled the
pornography industry by alleging that pornography inherently violates the civil rights of women, and granting women the right to sue pornographers on these grounds. While the ordinance was supported by
radical feminists, opponents of the legislation felt that the ordinance was overly broad (for instance, one of its definitions for pornography was any work, graphical or textual, that presented a
woman "in a posture of sexual submission") and would lead to rampant censorship of works that were neither obscene nor exploitative. Goodman ultimately agrees with this point in her essay,
asserting that the proposed form of the legislation would impugn upon just as many civil rights through censorship as it would protect. Instead of arguing for the ordinance, Goodman attempts
to shift the field of values by focusing instead on the underlying trend of using sex as the basis for discrimination, calling for work to be done in this fundamental
