This is a 5 page paper presenting 8 points used in favor of same sex marriages and 8 points used opposing same sex marriages. The opening paragraph presented by customer outlines both sides of the argument but the conclusion is meant to oppose the legalization of same sex marriages in Canada. Discrimination against same sex couples cannot be allowed however and the Supreme Court of Canada’s 1999 ruling to allow same sex couples to be included in the use of the term “spousal” has allowed for same sex couples to be considered the same as common law couples in regards to legal and health benefits in addition to several other legal considerations.

minorities of sexual orientation. Eight Points in Favor of Same Sex Marriages - Same sex married couples should have the same benefits and responsibilities of heterosexual couples in that
they will share health care benefits, child care responsibility and agreements, alimony, child support, taxes, wrongful death benefits, hospital visitation privileges and immigration benefits and to not have these benefits
is discriminatory. - A story documented by E.J. Graff of "The Nation" (1999) reported that upon their separation after a ten year relationship, a same sex couple had to
undergo six years of court battles for the division of their property; a process that would have taken a married couple only six months to conclude. Legalization of same sex
marriages would prevent the elongation of legal separation and the need to compose new laws to handle the growing population of same sex couples. - If legislation were to pass
to allow same sex marriages, the savings to the court system would be enormous and the separation of the assets and arrangements for child custody would be considered the same
as heterosexual marriages which are defined under law as to the legal structure and waiting periods for hassle free separations and divorces (Smith, 2002). Treatment of same sex marriage partners
as equal to that of heterosexual partners would allow for a decrease in anxiety for the couples in regards to separation, divorce and rights to benefits. - Many Western countries
