design is one of the proofs for the existence of God. In its basic form, this argument infers from the intelligent order and created beauty of the universe that there
is an intelligent Designer and Creator of the universe" (Carroll, 2002; design.html). This approach to arguing for the existence of God is credited to Reverend William Paley. It is an
argument that has been heralded as powerful truth and also an argument that has proven, in the eyes of many, to possess numerous flaws. In the following paper we examine
the Argument from Design and assess its strength as proving the existence of God. Argument from Design As mentioned, this theory of approach argues that there is a
creator because there is essentially a wondrously perfect design to existence. Everything works as it should and therefor something needed to have created this perfection, or this existence. In better
understanding what Paley was arguing he used a watch as an example: "In crossing a heath, suppose I pitched my foot against a stone and were asked how the stone
came to be there, I might possibly answer that for anything I knew to the contrary it had lain there forever; nor would it, perhaps, be very easy to show
the absurdity of this answer. But suppose I had found a watch upon the ground, and it should be inquired how the watch happened to be in that place, I
should hardly think of the answer which I had before given, that for anything I knew the watch might have always been there" (Carroll, 2002; design.html). According to Carroll (2002),
