in the war in Afghanistan, and the United States Intelligence Community (IC) and its allies have developed only a marginally relevant intelligence strategy. The U.S. has focused the majority of
its collection efforts and analytical intelligence on insurgent groups; however, "the US has been unable to answer fundamental questions about the environment in which the US operates and the people
they are trying to persuade."1 U.S. intelligence operatives do not understand the local economies or the landowners, they remain incurious about the correlations between various development projects and the levels
of cooperation of villagers, and they are disengaged from people in the best position to find answers, (i.e. aid workers or Afghan soldiers).2 Thus, these intelligence officers and analysts can
do nothing but shrug in response to high level decision-makers questions about what is necessary to wage a successful counterinsurgency. This paper argues the U.S. intelligence efforts in Afghanistan have
been ineffective and that they must be reworked in order to bring the war to a swift conclusion. Discussion There is a great deal of uncertainty among other nations as
to the real reasons why America has troops in the Middle East; this paper does not explore these fears or the political ramifications of the military action. Instead, it starts
