there doesnt seem to be any common ground; rhetoric and violence have obscured anything that might be a starting point for reconciliation. Pro-abortionists are incensed that they are being
told what to do in the most private area of their lives; anti-abortionists are incensed that lives are being destroyed in what they consider a callous and unwarranted "holocaust."
Abortion, however, is as old as mankind and I believe there will always be women for whom it is necessary. Why then would the anti-abortionists force them to risk
their lives instead of making the operation safe, clean and legal? Anti-abortionists are profoundly anti-woman, and it is the continuing subjugation of women (and those men who understand and
love them) that is at the heart of the debate, though no one wants to admit it. This paper argues in favor of keeping abortion safe and legal.
Discussion I say that anti-abortionists are anti-woman because of the effects that having an unwanted child can have on a woman. Despite claims to the contrary, women who
seek abortions are not "tramps" or "sluts"; many are married and in every case, the decision has been reached through a long, arduous process of soul-searching. By what right
then do total strangers intrude into this womans life to force their beliefs on her? I do think that anti-abortionists fervently believe that women who seek abortions are
evil, and that they must be stopped at all costs. This of course speaks to the religious aspect of the debate, which sees abortion as murder and a sin.
