A 12 page review of the historical and contemporary reasons behind the current state of economic strife being experienced in Argentina. This paper emphasizes that while Latin America’s “free market avatar” may have been hoped to have been a shining model of a republic but the free market simply has not worked. While the wealthy have benefited, the commoner has only fallen deeper and deeper into the economic rut which now characterizes the entire country. The author reviews factors ranging from the inverse relationship in export and import, the adverse role of the International Monetary Fund, and the internal politics of Argentina which have led to this state. the Andes) the country is home to some of the most environmentally diverse lands in the world, lands which have been subjected to a number of stressors in recent years.
Unfortunately, Argentinas political and social environment have been subjected to a number of stressors as well. Consequently, the country is in a state of environmental, social, and political
turmoil. It is in a state of severe poverty and the home to rampant crime (Schwartz, 2002). Rather than serving as the model of a republic, this country
is the worlds poster child for economic policy gone bad. Argentinas mistakes mimic those incurred by many other Latin American countries and her
economic, political, social, and environmental status attest to that fact (Schwartz, 2002). The country is deep in debt and the people are unemployed (Hudson and Margolis, 2001). Violent
rioting now characterizes the once placid and stable country (Schwartz, 2002). Unfortunately, Argentinas economic and societal problems run deep to the bone and are not likely to be reversed
in the near future. The business environment of Argentina has been hit particularly hard in the last few years. According to the
Farmer and Richman Model, delineated by Richard Farmer and Barry Richman in "Comparative Management and Economic Progress", there are several environmental constraints that interplay to shape a countrys businesses.
