more years ago most people would answer yes without any hesitation. People believe we are better off largely because of science, technology, and medical knowledge. They simply assume that because
we possess more and know more about our universe, and because we live longer than we did a hundred years ago, we are better off. However, in order to really
see if we are better off it is important to know the specifics and compare what life is now with what life was then. The following paper looks at three
different aspects of life now and life a hundred or more years ago. The paper looks at medical knowledge, food concerns, and poverty. Better Off Now? Most people would
generally agree that our medical knowledge is far better than it was a hundred or more years ago. Women do not die in childbirth at nearly the rate they did
a hundred years ago. People live longer and more healthily than they did in the past, and for the most part medical knowledge is looking to the future to further
improve out ability to experience a long and healthy life. However, if we look at other aspects of the health industry and whether or not we are better off we
may find that it was far easier to live in the past regarding our health. One author notes that a hundred years ago people generally died from disease, childbirth and
accidents. These forms of death were quick and required no medical care and thus were cheap. "Now the leading causes of death are heart trouble, cancer and stroke. Slow and
