What is the impact of labor relations on organizations? A labor union is " an organization of wage earners formed for the purpose of serving the members interests with respect
to wages and working conditions" ("Labor Union," 2007). The point of the union is that people of like mind band together in order to render a fair and safe workplace.
One would think it easy to do. After all, there are laws against certain labor practices. Yet, those laws would only arise after labor unions were formed. Prior to that
time, people toiled for perhaps sixteen hours per day only to earn a pittance. In numbers, there is strength, which is the premise of the union concept. Some history may
shed light on the unions impact on labor relations. Unions would begin to spring up during the latter half of the 1800s (Mankiller, Mink, Navarro, Smith
& Steinem, 1998). A second wave would emerge during the 1910s ( Mankiller, Mink, Navarro, Smith & Steinem, 1998). During the 1930s and 1940s, there was
a wave of industrial unionism ( Mankiller, Mink, Navarro, Smith & Steinem, 1998). Public sector service unionism and unionism involving health care would commence during the
1960s (Mankiller, Mink, Navarro, Smith & Steinem, 1998). At each turn, there would be something to spark more activity. In general, the workers felt that
they were being treated unfairly. In some cases, working conditions were so poor that the lives of the workers were in danger. The Triangle Factory Fire is a well-known
incident where many people died because workers were found in unsafe conditions. At the Triangle Factory, workers sewed items in a small room. When a fire started, there was
