functional roles, Zaleznik (1977) states that "managers and leaders are two very different types of people". However, this looks more towards issues of personality and style, however his work does
go on to define the different roles, with managers concerns with logistics and operations whereas leaders are the visionaries. Covey (2004) argues that leaders lead people whereas managers manage things,
which also alludes to the concept of the different roles and the different perspectives that are present, and need to be adopted in each role, this is also aligned with
Drucker who argues that leaders will have followers (Hesselbein et al, 1997). Bennis (2007) also supports the idea concept of the differing
perspectives between management and leadership, he states "There is a profound difference between management and leadership, and both are important. To manage means to bring about, to accomplish, to
have charge of or responsibility for, to conduct. Leading is influencing, guiding in a direction, course, action, opinion." There appears to be a general agreement that there are some very
different perspective needed for management and leadership, but both are needed and essential in a business environment. To consider the differences management and theory leadership can be further examined.
