the most prevalent in terms of doing studies to determine many different aspects about gangs. One of the most important research questions involves why people get into gangs in the first place. Many argue that there is a great deal of anger and confusion in the young people and a gang offers them the opportunity to get back at the world, and perhaps their parents. Others may well argue that people join gangs because they are all but forced into it as a result of their neighborhood, their friends or other reasons. However, the majority of researches seem to believe that people join gangs, or create gangs, for issues regarding affiliation or the need to fit in somewhere. Bearing these realities and possibilities in mind the following paper examines many different perspectives concerning the why youth join gangs or why gangs are created. Gangs and Reasoning Aside from Belonging As mentioned, there are those who perhaps believe that people join gangs, or create gangs, out of an anger and frustration that involves violence. One could argue that many inner city youth are angry because they feel they have no future. They may come from broken homes and additionally come from violent homes. With violence learned in the home they seek to deal with problems through violent means. And, considering that their home life is probably less than adequate with a highly oppressive atmosphere, people seek to create gangs or join gangs in order to find some power of their own and to get back at their parents and society. Such people have no hope and through a gang they feel they have control. Control is an important element in a young adults life for too often they find that they cannot make their own choices about anything. ...
