most Americans are people who do not care for the poor, even in their own nation, and that they are only concerned with their own needs. Now, clearly every nation
has its good and bad people, its selfish and compassionate individuals but on a whole any nation can be stereotyped in one way or another. With that in mind the
following paper examines whether or not Americans are, for the majority, selfish. The paper argues that they are, in fact, selfish for the most part. Are Americans Selfish?
First and foremost it should be noted that not all Americans are selfish and many Americans care a great deal about the rest
of the world and the problems within America as well as the world. There are many individuals, and even organizations, that donate money, offer their assistance, and do whatever they
can to help others. But, what the rest of the world sees is the selfishness of Americans in most cases. In looking
at the possibly inherent selfish nature of Americans it is important to first understand that Americans are taught to be autonomous almost from the time they are born. They are
part of a type of culture that invest heavily in thinking first about themselves and their own survival before thinking about their community or others. This is not necessarily the
fault of any American alive today it is simply the culture they were born into and raised within. Becoming an individual who truly cares about others, thinks of those in
need and puts the needs of others in a community before their own is something Americans must find and feel and experience on their own for America has long been
