course, it may be said that modern or postmodern buildings which sit amongst relics from the past characterize todays culture as well. One can for example look at a home
from the 1950s and equate it with a particular decade. The characteristics are quite different from Victorian-era buildings for example. There does seem to be a relationship between architecture and
culture. When all is said and done, one question looms: what do buildings tell people about culture? In delving into this subject, a student remarks: "It has been said that
you can read the mind of a civilization in its architecture" and then asks: "What kind of character and world-view do you deduce from Egyptian, Roman, or Byzantine buildings?" In
essence, as conveyed by a student, these are simply examples. In writing a paper on this subject, a student is to choose one to consider "whether a whole civilization can
be treated as if it had one mind." This is an interesting question. As already noted, modern architecture sits amongst the older variety. In other words, there are clearly different
opinions and ideas to come forth from each era. Also, many different types of architecture are used and it might be said that some homes and buildings seem to be
unique. In fact, many artists design buildings as such. When delving back into time, is it fair to see each era or type of people as one, or are there
unique characteristics to be conveyed? A student writing on this subject, in choosing one culture, might choose Egypt. In the Old Kingdom, for example, the people were mostly temple and
