Revival architecture, the old building gave way to an exact replica of the United States Capitol Building in Washington, D.C., where the architectural feel turned significantly more modest than its
historical counterpart. Designed in 1899 by architect Cass Gilbert (Anonymous #3, 2002) and taking sixteen years to build, the new Capitol Building reflects Classical Revival (Anonymous #2, 2002) and is
made primarily from limestone, a material that was quarried directly from a local mine in Batesville, Arkansas. That it was constructed upon a state penitentiary meant there was no
lack of inmate labor when it came to building the structure; a single dormitory served as their temporary home until the Capitol was completed at a cost of $2.2 million.
If the same building were to be constructed at todays costs, it would be valued at three hundred twenty million dollars (Anonymous #4, 2002). New Yorks famed Tiffanys
supplied the ten-foot-tall, four inch thick bronze entrance doors, which totaled an impressive ten thousand dollars; the arched gateway is adorned in 24-karat gold leaf. Upon entering the building,
the structures gaping openness is immediately evident with the entire edifice standing one hundred sixty feet from the interior dome all the way down to the first floor. The
solid brass chandelier reaches twelve feet across as it hangs amidst the marbleized interior from walls to floor to everything in between. The marble was collected from three different
states, each bringing a unique appearance to the overall image. Colorado provided marble for columns around the third floor; Alabamas marble created the grand staircase and marble from Vermont
