pursuit of some very ambitious projects that would in fact change the face of architecture, these brothers found themselves in a less than idealistic financial state. It is therefore
interesting to attempt to uncover the reasons for their financial struggles, especially in light of their obvious talent and dedication to projects that offered significant contributions in terms of architecture.
The reasons are indeed varied and perhaps due at least in part to subjective assessment. Their financial struggles aside however, their brilliance and impact cannot be denied.
Robert Adam and his Brothers - Business Ventures Robert Adam was a Scottish architect who had a tremendous impact on architecture
mainly along the border of England and Scotland (Biography of Robert Adam, 2003). He was known for his Georgian art and architecture, as were his brothers with whom he
was in business (Biography of Robert Adam, 2003). Robert became the most recognized of the brothers, but the others were excellent architects as well (Robert Adam, 2003). Robert
was the second son of William Adam (Robert Adam, 2003). His older brother was John, and younger brothers were James and William (Robert Adam, 2003). Their father was
also a renown architect, and it was his influence that first spurred the imagination of his sons (Robert Adam, 2003).
It was in 1762 that Robert was appointed sole architect to the king and the Board of Works (Robert Adam, 2003). By 1768 Robert and his brothers had leaves
