love, or the lost man who seeks meaning in his life or seeks love. Many films essentially offer up characters that are recognizable, despite being new. This is the case with Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark, Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean, and Lara Croft in Tomb Raider. In many ways these characters are the same, possessed of very similar characteristics. The following paper examines the archetypes presented in these three characters and the characteristics that make them belong to that particular archetype. Archetypes There are many labels one could use in defining the archetypes of these three characters. But, in this situation they will be deemed adventurers. Although they differ in how they approach their need and involvement in adventure, they are all seriously adventurous individuals and are primarily adventurers. The characteristics (parameters) that make up these individuals are many but in this case the characteristics are being narrowed down to three. Indiana, Jack, and Lara are all independent, loners, and somewhat reluctant heroes. They are independent because they generally work alone on their particular adventure, or they want to work alone. Even if they have friends that help them the viewer is well aware that they do not need that help, that friend, for they are capable of doing things alone. This clearly links together with being a loner. None of these individuals really have any family, any spouse, or any desire to really be connected with others. They like being alone and are perfectly happy with that existence, preferring it to being together with other people.
