as characterization. Naguib Mahfouzs work called the Arabian Nights and Days is an interesting book. The author makes use of numerous literary techniques which elevates this reconditioning of infamous
stories to extraordinary heights. This book has received acclaim and for good cause. The work is both well written, true to its task and moves quickly. The plot involves
evil, marriage and violence and is above all deep in terms of philosophical ideals. Thematic elements are woven into the text and are numerous. Life and death is always apparent
to the reader. The author transforms the stories inherent in the Arabian nights and turns them into a moral crusade of sorts. Perhaps the author has used the writing of
this book as a sort of therapy or spiritual exercise. After exploring the thematic elements of the novel, and authors technique, a student writing on this subject will want to
make the transition from describing the book as a whole to focusing in on the question at hand. In terms of this essay, that would be the role that Gamasa
Al-Bulti played. Such a character may be described in terms of the way in which the author sees him as well as the way in which a reader might interpret
him. The characterization of Gamasa Al-Bulti is well done, as were the characterizations of the others. However, in this case, the author seems to have delved deeper to paint a
