I am applying to the School of Allied Health Professions in the Coding Specialist training program. My purpose here is to explain my reasons. Environmental Conditions
It is common knowledge that the entire health care field will expand for several more years; as demand for health care increases, so do
the opportunities for those in Allied Health Professions. The first of the baby boomers are now entering retirement age, and there is not a single social institution that the
boomers have moved through that they have not irrevocably changed. The elderly constitute the largest single group of users of health care services, and their numbers will increase dramatically
over the next fifteen to twenty years. At the same time, physicians real incomes have been declining over the past several years as
Medicare, managed care providers and private insurers all have experienced serious financial difficulties in the face of spiraling health care costs. Business learned many lessons of the benefits of
outsourcing over the years, and now individual doctors and large private practices alike are learning the same lessons. The cost of contracted labor - i.e., the work of a
coding specialist - is accounted for differently than that of direct labor, and there is no employer arrangement whereby the physicians office needs to incur additional costs in the form
of payroll taxes. The cost of updating a patient record at a price of $16 - $19 for each record (Envision Your Future, n.d.) can be far more cost
