There are many initiatives that are developed in order to use either technology or the intellectual capital found in a modern organisations. Both of these may be
seen as a source of competitive advantage that may be utilised by a company with the correct procedures, attitudes and recognition. The implementation of any system may also be fraught
with problems, especially if it is one that has been developed externally and requires a culture change in order to be effective, whereas other may evolve in terms of internal
developments. Either of these may be seen as able to being advantages and benefits. There are few innovations that can be seen as geared towards both technology and intellectual capital
unrelated to the technology as well as being developed organically in the actual environment where it will be used. One example of where all these element s have come together
can be seen in the Xerox Eureka system, this is both innovative and home grown, as well as so good that it has achieved many awards.
In 1999 when the Eureka project received the Best Knowledge Management Project in the Information Management `99 Awards this was the third award in six weeks (Business
