None of mans ideas pertaining to the nature of the soul have ever been consistently proven. Since the creation of history itself, the entire lifetimes
of some individuals have been earnestly spent almost in search of evidence of concrete proof of their philosophical views. In regard to the nature of the soul, it is
apparent that belief and that which each individual personally believes in plays a key role in determining their final views on the matter. In the case of philosophers such
as Hume and Descartes, examinations of their ideas have shown me many clear attempts to explain the concept of belief as it relates to the nature of the soul.
Hume explains the concept of belief as follows: When a person sees a glass fall, he not only thinks of it breaking but expects and believes
that it will break;or starting from an effect, when he sees the ground to be generally wet, he not only thinks of rain but believes there has been rain. Under
these revelations, belief is a significant component in the process of casual inference. Hume also relates his ideas to a very narrow sense of the word belief. He
defines it as sort of a liveliness of vividness that accompanies the perception of a new idea. A belief, he says, is more than an idea: it is a
vivid or lively idea. This vividness is originally possessed by some of the objects of awareness, by impressions and the simple memory images of them.
